Chamber Spotlight: PMH Auxiliary
|
The PMH Auxiliary plays a vital role in raising money for the hospital. For more than fifty years, this active group has supported PMH and the community, providing hundreds of thousands of dollars through various events.
The Auxiliary is currently planning their 10th annual golf tournament in July. Funds raised from the golf tournament support the "wish list" of management and the hospital board. Tickets for the raffle of a quilt made by Katina Wakeman may be purchased from the Chamber offices.

The third annual Luray Triathlon is Aug 16-17 and organizer David Glover is looking for sponsorship and hotel rooms for the staff. Seven to eight hundred athletes participated last year and this year Glover expects the number to grow to 1,000! Sponsors receive promotion in print, on the web and on the tee shirts. Judith Suddith, John Shaffer join Chamber board
|
Judith J. Suddith has been a resident of Luray for 23 years. A native of Cumberland, Maryland, Judy is a graduate of Fort Hill High School, Allegany Community College and James Madison University.
She came to town as a cable television producer and is now the office manager for Lord Fairfax Community College's Luray-Page County Center. Her other work experience includes owning and operating a successful title examination business for ten years, working as a law firm reporter, and as a free-lance writer for local and national publications. "I am looking forward to my term on the Chamber Board. Most of my work experience has been in the field of communications. A strength that I bring to the Chamber is my ability to communicate effectively with a variety of people. I am interested in how people came to be who and what they are. Each person has a story." said Ms. Suddith.
John Shaffer, a native of Luray, Virginia, is a graduate of the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech and a 28-year employee of Luray Caverns Corporation in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley.
John has been involved in various company departments over the years including the Ticket Office, Director of Tour Guides, Sales Manager and his current position as Director of Marketing and Sales.
He has served in numerous capacities at the local, state and national levels for the tourism industry and the community. He is a Past President of the Shenandoah Valley Travel Association and former member of the Board for the National Tourism Association. He has served on the Travel Industry Association of
America Government Affairs Committee and is a current Board member of the Virginia Hospitality and Travel Association, and the Luray-Page County Chamber of Commerce Tourism Council.
Mr. Shaffer is a Past- President of the Luray Rotary Club and serves on its board of directors as Community Service Chairman.

Page County Public Schools and PACA to share results June 5
|
Page County Public Schools and Page Alliance for Community Action (PACA), a coalition to promote the healthy and positive development of youth and families, received a grant from the Governor's Office of Substance Abuse Prevention to conduct a comprehensive community Needs Assessment. The results of the Assessment will be shared Thursday, June 5, at 6:30 pm in the auditorium of Luray High School.
